白细胞介素2（IL-2）是一种单体细胞因子，最初被鉴定为T细胞生长因子（Gaffen & Liu）。它与由CD25、CD122和CD132组成的异三聚体受体结合。结合后，它会激活JAK3、STAT5和AKT依赖的信号通路，从而促进细胞增殖和存活（Ma et al.）。大多数IL-2由活化的CD4+和CD8+ T细胞分泌，而B细胞和树突状细胞也产生少量IL-2。IL-2会下调胸腺发育过程中的免疫反应以防止自身免疫，影响CD4+CD25+调节性T细胞的发育，并影响滤泡辅助性T细胞的发育。IL-2也会通过抑制Th17分化来控制炎症（Banchereau et al.）。血清中高水平的IL-2与硬皮病、类风湿关节炎、胃癌和非小细胞肺癌的发展有关，尽管目前还没有已知的疾病可以直接归因于IL-2缺乏或过量（Gaffen & Liu）。

The EC50 is defined as the effective concentration of the cytokine at which cell proliferation is at 50% of maximum. The EC50 in the example above is 1.99 ng/mL. (B) 1 μg of Human Recombinant IL-2, ACF was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (+) and non-reducing (-) conditions and visualized by Coomassie Blue staining.
