RB6-8C5抗体识别结构上相关的小鼠Ly-6G （21 - 25 kDa）和Ly-6C（14 - 16 kDa）GPI锚定蛋白，这两种蛋白共同构成粒细胞受体-1抗原（Gr-1）。Gr-1在单核细胞、中性粒细胞、巨噬细胞的亚群、浆细胞样树突状细胞和T细胞上表达。骨髓单核细胞在发育过程中短暂表达Gr-1，其表达水平与粒细胞分化和成熟密切相关。在外周，Gr-1主要存在于中性粒细胞上，是中性粒细胞的实用标志物。RB6-8C5既可以与Ly-6G又可以与Ly-6C结合，而另一种常用的抗Gr-1抗体克隆1A8只能与Ly-6G特异性结合。据报导，1A8抗体可用于检测外周血中表达Ly-6G的粒细胞，而RB6-8C5抗体也可以结合表达Ly-6C的淋巴细胞、单核细胞和树突状细胞。

该抗体克隆已被验证可用于评估EasySep™试剂盒（包括EasySep™小鼠中性粒细胞富集试剂盒（产品号 #19762））分选的细胞纯度。
