该小鼠单克隆抗体（克隆号 MT15B15）可与人肿瘤坏死因子α (TNF-α)发生反应。TNF-α是一种促炎细胞因子，主要由巨噬细胞和T细胞在感染和炎症反应中产生。TNF-α最初作为~26 kDa的跨膜前体产生，随后被金属蛋白酶加工成~17 kDa的可溶性产物。两种形式的TNF-α都以三聚体形式存在，并通过与TNFR1（存在于几乎所有人细胞类型表面）或TNFR2（位于免疫细胞和内皮细胞）结合发挥其作用。TNF-α 信号传导最初被认为具有肿瘤坏死作用，可导致炎症反应，包括血管扩张和水肿形成、白细胞粘附于上皮细胞以及血液凝固。TNF-α 在防御细菌、病毒和寄生虫感染方面也发挥着关键作用。
