HIR2（GA-R2）抗体识别人类CD235a（血型糖蛋白A）和CD235b（血型糖蛋白B）N端区域共有的表位，这两种同源I型唾液酸化糖蛋白在红细胞（RBC）膜上带有MN和Ss血型的抗原决定簇。CD235ab在早期和晚期成红细胞、成熟红细胞和红系细胞系（如K562和HEL）上表达，但在其他细胞类型上不表达。CD235a大量表达，而CD235b是一种表达相对较少的膜成分。这些蛋白被认为为红细胞提供一个大的黏液样表面，以减少红细胞在循环中的聚集。HIR2抗体与CD235a结合的亲和力高于CD235b，并能凝集未经处理的红细胞。
